Selling with online auction websites

Don't just throw unwanted stuff away! The old saying one man's junk is another man's treasure is true. You would be amazed at the stuff people sell with online auctions.

Selling items online can be difficult if you have your own website. You have to have tons of traffic coming to your site each day and someone has to be willing to buy something once they get to your website. Online auctions makes selling anything online easy and profitable.

The advantages of selling items with online auctions is: First, there are already thousands of people visiting online auction sites each day and second, they all are looking to buy something.

The only negative aspect of selling items at an online auction is paying fees for using the service. However, if you look at it from a online business point of view it's not that bad.

Let me give you a real life example to explain. Let's say you had a young child at one time and now he/she is all grown up. When they were 2 years old you bought them the famous "Cozy Coupe". You probably paid about $40 for the item when you bought it 6 years ago.

Now has come the time to get rid of the Cozy Coupe and free up some garage space. You have a few options of what to do with the Cozy Coupe.

The first option is to donate the toy to a charity. Yes, this is probably the best thing to do, but not the most profitable. The second option is to put it in the next family garage sell and put a list price of $15 on the Coupe.

Now this is where the story becomes personal. A young family with a two year old daughter is looking for a "Cozy Coupe" one day at garage sales (me). We come up on a sale that has a Cozy Coupe sitting in the driveway for sale. My wife gets out of the car and asks how much would you take for the Cozy Coupe? The lady quickly responds, "well it's priced $15 but I would probably take $10". Sold, we packed the car up in the van and headed home.

I feel we got a great deal on the Cozy Coupe and the woman sold the car cheaper than she should have because she was afraid we would walk away and not make the purchase. How could she have made more money from the Cozy Coupe? Well, an online auction of course.

I just did a quick search on eBay for Cozy Coupe and found one selling for over $21. The buyer pays shipping so they will get $21 for the car. When the item sells they will have to pay $1.40 eBay fees. That means they make $19.60 from the car instead of the $10 they sold it to us for, almost double the profit!
